Panos Panay is joining Amazon after spending 19 years at Microsoft.

“As a strong product creator and inventor with deep experience in both hardware and integrated services, Panos will be a great addition to our devices and services organization moving forward,” JC wrote in a note to employees.

Panay will start work at Amazon in late October, with Limp working with him over the next few months to help him transition into the role. Panay had worked at Microsoft for nearly 20 years and led major projects such as the Microsoft Surface lineup and the company’s Windows operating system. Yusuf Mehdi, Microsoft’s consumer marketing chief, is taking over for Panay.

“I have known Panos for years and I believe he will be a great addition to this organization going forward,” Limp said in a statement. “He is a passionate product leader and I can’t wait to see what you all invent together. I will work diligently with them over the next two months to ensure a smooth transition through our fall launch and our OP1 plan.
