'People said all kinds of nasty things': Krunal Pandya breaks down in emotional post for brother Hardik

Indian all-rounder Krunal Pandya broke down in tears after writing an emotional post on social media for his brother Hardik Pandya. Hardik Pandya helped India win the T20 World Cup trophy despite criticism in the last few months. Krunal Pandya praised Hardik Pandya's brilliant comeback and said that people have forgotten that he is just a “human with emotions”.

The criticism began after Mumbai Indians replaced Rohit Sharma as captain for the IPL 2024 season in December last year. While veteran cricketers and experts criticised the move, Hardik was attacked on social media. The online attack soon turned into booing during every Mumbai match and continued unabated as the team finished bottom of the table for the second time in three seasons.

However, Hardik made a brilliant comeback from the IPL drama and played a key role in India winning the T20 World Cup for the second time. His best performance came in the final against South Africa, where he dismissed the dangerous Heinrich Klaasen and took two wickets in the last over to successfully defend 16 runs, helping India win by seven runs.

After the match in Barbados, Krunal was in tears after watching Hardik play. He wrote a long and emotional post on his Instagram handle.

“It's been almost a decade since Hardik and I have been playing professional cricket. And the last few days have been like the fairy tale of our dreams,” he wrote. “Like every countryman, I too have witnessed the heroics of our teams and I couldn't be more emotional than being at the centre of the event with my brother.”

Krunal then spoke about how Hardik bravely coped against the brutal reaction from the Wankhede crowd during the IPL 2024 season and how he kept his focus on winning the World Cup for India.

He said, “The last six months have been the toughest for Hardik. He didn't deserve whatever he went through and as a brother, I felt really bad for him. From hooting to people saying all sorts of nasty things, at the end of the day, we all forgot that he is just a human being who has emotions too. He somehow went through all of this with a smile, though I know how difficult it was for him to smile. He kept working hard and kept focusing on what he had to do to win the World Cup because that was his ultimate goal.”

Despite his struggles, Hardik played a decisive role during the T20 World Cup held in the USA and West Indies, especially in crucial moments for Team India, including the final. Overall, he scored 144 runs in six innings at a strike rate of 151.57 and took 11 wickets in the entire tournament.

“I just want to remind people that what Hardik has done in such a short span of his career is incredible. His efforts for the national team have never wavered. Every time, at every stage of Hardik's life, people underestimated him, and this has only motivated him to come back even stronger. For Hardik, it has always been country first, and it will always remain so. For a young boy coming from Baroda, there can be no bigger achievement than helping his team win a World Cup.

“Hardik, I am so proud of you. I love you so much and you deserve every happiness and every good thing that comes your way. I have so much respect for you, my kid,” Krunal said.
