Pixel 9a alleged leaked images hint at removal of camera bar, more

We're still gathering thoughts following the Pixel 9 launch, but a new leak of alleged Pixel 9a images has given us an idea of what the new A-series devices could offer.

Photos shared in a now-deleted post on a private Vietnamese Pixel fan Facebook group and then shared on X (formerly Twitter) by ShrimpApplePro hint that we could see slight differences in the mainline and A-series lineups in the future.

First of all, these photos should be taken with a grain of salt. There are very few leaks or information available about the Pixel 9a. As is always the case with early leaks, these photos don't always come out well or at the highest resolution. That being said, if they are indeed accurate, it looks like Google is going to flatten or remove the camera bar from the Pixel 9a.

A dual camera with a glossy ring around the setup mimics the round floating camera bar of the Pixel 9 series. The LED flash is on the right and is not included in this section. However, these leaked images indicate that the Pixel 9a camera system could be flush with the frame rather than jutting out from the back of the device. This would be the first major design that hasn't come from the mainline lineup to the A-series since the Pixel 4a shipped with a single-camera system. Removing the camera bar could help differentiate the lineup and offer cost savings.

This leak also suggests that the Pixel 9a will – as you'd expect – adopt the boxy aesthetic of the Pixel 9 series. It has flat side rails, and the SIM tray looks like it's going down below the bottom bezel like the latest flagship lineup. It's hard to tell if the display bezels are the same on all sides, but the edges of the screen are quite pronounced compared to the Pixel 9 and 9 Pro.

The only other notable aspect is the color. While it's hard to tell from the lighting of this leak, the Pixel 9a image looks like it has a matte backplate and matte side rails. It wouldn't be unusual for Google to do the same this time around.

It's unclear when we'll see the Pixel 9a, but this could be the earliest leak we've seen of an upcoming Google device.

ShrimpApplePro also shared information that the Pixel 9a could be released “later this year”, and that it will come in 4 colors, including a “silver” option. Again, we'd take this information with a grain of salt, given that the Pixel 8a was launched just a few months before Google I/O.

What do you think about these possible early leaks? Let us know in the comments section below.
