The second quarter-final of Euro 2024 is another blockbuster encounter pitting 2018 World Cup winners France against 2016 European champions Portugal.

Didier Deschamps' side have managed to reach the last-eight without conceding a goal from open play. Two own goals and a penalty from Kylian Mbappe have been enough to see them through to challenging matches against Austria, the Netherlands, Poland and Belgium. Their narrow win over Belgium in the last-16 lacked quality and excitement, although the French side will be buoyed by a number of missed chances and Mbappe's regaining form since suffering a broken nose.

In comparison, Portugal had to go through a penalty shootout to beat Slovenia in the round of 16. Roberto Martinez's side struggled to create chances in their first knockout match, with Cristiano Ronaldo in particular missing good opportunities, including a penalty miss in extra time.

This match will be a battle of generations with Mbappe facing off against Ronaldo, yet both teams know that improvements are needed if they are to get the job done tonight.

Euro 2024: Portugal vs France

Portugal needed penalties to reach the quarter-finals and will now face a French side who have an easier route to Euro 2024.

France's modest win over Belgium may have lacked quality and excitement for large parts of the match, with France missing several chances. Kylian Mbappe has not been in form since breaking his nose in his first match of the tournament, but he will have another chance against Portugal.

This match can be called the battle between the new generation of Mbappe and the 39-year-old Ronaldo, and this match is going to be very exciting.
