European companies have strengthened their hold in the Indian car market. At the moment, they are lagging behind Korean, Japanese and Indian brands. One such brand is Renault, which is trying to regain its lost ground in India. Now, Renault is testing a unique car in the country. This is the Renault Austral. Let's talk about why Renault is testing it and what is the significance of this premium Renault Duster.

Austral Spotted
The Austral would have been competing with products like the Tata Harrier, MG Hector, etc. Now why is it here? Renault-Nissan has brought several cars to India in the last two years just for testing purposes. It joins the list of famous cars like the Koleos, Arkana and Ariya that have been spotted testing in India. However, the case of the Austral is a little different from the other mentioned cars.
Premium Renault Duster – Hybrid
The Austral spotted in India is the E-Tech version that comes with a 1.3-litre turbo petrol engine mated to a 400v hybrid system and a 2kWh battery pack. Renault claims that its E-Tech is 40% more fuel efficient than the mild hybrid Austral with the same engine. Last year, Renault revealed that it wants to introduce strong hybrid powertrains in India. It plans to localise the hybrids to make the products competitive. The Duster is expected to be the first car from the brand to come with a strong hybrid setup in India.

Renault's plans
The French brand has confirmed that it plans to update the Triber and Kiger. Talking about the Kwid, it seems that it will be replaced by an electric version. However, the most awaited product from Renault is the new generation Duster which is expected to be launched in the second half of 2025. Another product we can expect is the B+ SUV, which we think could be a product between the Kiger and the upcoming Duster.
