On 6 October, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot announced that his state would mirror the recent caste-based census move by Bihar and begin the census soon.

The order said that the survey will be conducted by the Department of Planning (Economics and Statistics) and will collect up-to-date information and data regarding social, economic and educational levels.

At the district level, the district collector shall be the nodal officer for the survey work and shall be in overall charge of the same,” the order added. The order also states that a special software and mobile app will be made available by the Information and Technology Department for data collection and storage.
