Ravens unveil purple alternate helmet ahead of 2024 season

The Baltimore Ravens introduced a new alternate helmet on Tuesday, just months ahead of the 2024 NFL season. The new helmet is purple instead of the traditional black helmet the franchise is known for, and features a picture of a Raven on the front and side.

Baltimore becomes the latest franchise to take advantage of the NFL's updated uniform policy, which allows teams to have two alternate helmets. The league revised its uniform policy in April to allow teams to add a third helmet design, with the additional design being granted to teams that go through the re-design process for the 2024 season and open to all teams for the 2025 season. The league updated its uniform policy in 2022 to allow teams to have a second helmet shell color.

The Ravens' new helmets also feature gold embellishments and have received praise from current and former players as well as fans.

“It’s awesome, man,” Ravens tight end Mark Andrews said in a promo video released by the team.

His sentiments were echoed by other members of the team, including receiver Zay Flowers, who said: “This is who it is right here.”

The Ravens join teams like the Minnesota Vikings, New York Giants, Denver Broncos and Detroit Lions that have unveiled new helmets this offseason.

Detroit introduced an alternate blue helmet as opposed to their traditional silver helmet. The Vikings released photos of their “Winter Warrior” uniform, which features a white helmet for the first time in team history. The Broncos also added an alternate white helmet to their new wardrobe, and the Giants will wear a blue and red helmet as part of the old uniform.
