Ravindra Jadeja released, Mohammed Siraj and Umran Malik ruled out of Duleep Trophy due to illness

Three Indian cricketers have been ruled out from the upcoming first round of the Duleep Trophy 2024 which includes Ravindra Jadeja, Mohammed Siraj and Umran Malik. While no reason has been given behind Jadeja's release, the BCCI says both Siraj and Umran are ill and will not be able to recover in time to make it to the first round of the red-ball competition scheduled to begin in the first week of September.

“Both Siraj and Malik are ill and are not expected to be fit in time for the Duleep Trophy matches,” a statement issued by the BCCI said.

Siraj was set to represent Team B under the captaincy of Abhimanyu Easwaran and will be replaced in the squad by India right-arm pacer Navdeep Saini.

Meanwhile, there were reports that Umran has recovered from dengue, but it seems he is still not fit enough to make a competitive comeback. He was scheduled to play for Team C led by Rituraj Gaikwad and will now be replaced by Madhya Pradesh pacer Gaurav Yadav.

No replacement has been announced for Jadeja. The tournament is scheduled to begin from September 5 in Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh and M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru.
