Ricky Kej backs 'liver doc' for taking aim at Samantha Ruth Prabhu, says she endorses 'unhealthy food' for money

Hours after Samantha Ruth Prabhu released a statement in response to Dr Cyriac AB Phillips aka 'Liver Doctor's' allegations that she “should be put in jail” for advocating harmful medical advice on her podcast Take 20, Grammy Award winner Ricky Kej addressed Samantha in the comments section. What did Ricky say?

“Get well soon! You've been through a lot, and deserve to get well. Regarding medical advice, it's best not to share it with non-medical professionals, especially influential celebs, especially since you also endorse processed foods and sugary unhealthy foods for pets. While we understand this is done for the money, it's natural to be skeptical of anyone you praise,” Ricky wrote.

He added that speaking out in favour of such “life-threatening” treatments is particularly dangerous territory, as they have not gone through clinical trials and peer-review systems. “So the doctor who attacked you (I can't see his comments) may have been rude, but he wasn't completely wrong. No one can play with people's lives by giving half-baked advice. Especially people who have a lot of influence. It is not the responsibility of the said doctor to contact you. He will respond to you in the right way, as you are the one advocating the treatment,” Ricky further wrote.

Samantha's statement

Samantha Ruth Prabhu released a lengthy statement on her Instagram handle after a doctor, also known as 'The Liver Doc', criticised her for putting up a post about the use of hydrogen peroxide nebulisation and called her 'health illiterate'.

The actress, who was recently diagnosed with myositis, revealed that she suggested hydrogen peroxide nebulisation with 'only good intentions' as it was recommended by a 'highly qualified doctor'.

Addressing the liver doctor's harsh words, Samantha wrote, “It would have been kind and compassionate of him if he wasn't so proactive in his words. Especially the part where he suggests I should be put in jail. Never mind. I guess that's part of being a celebrity. I posted as someone who needs medical treatment, not as a celebrity.”

The actor added, “It would have been nice if they had politely invited my doctor, whom I tagged in my post, instead of following me around. I would have loved to learn from the debate and discussion between two highly qualified professionals.”

Dr. Phillips had previously criticized Samantha for recommending hydrogen peroxide nebulization, calling her “health and science illiterate” and saying the practice was “hazardous to health.”

“Influential Indian actress Ms. Samantha Ruth Prabhu, who is unfortunately illiterate about health and science, advises her millions of followers to sniff hydrogen peroxide for the prevention and treatment of respiratory viral infections,” the doctor wrote on X.

Meanwhile, on the work front, Samantha is prepping for Citadel: Honey Bunny opposite Varun Dhawan. Directed by Raj and DK, this upcoming web series is an Indian adaptation of the Russo brothers' Citadel, which originally starred Priyanka Chopra and Richard Madden.

Apart from this, Samantha will also work in Bangaram, which she announced on her birthday this year. This project is especially important for her as it is her first film as a producer.
