A Twitter user named Roshan Rai [a defendant in Dua’s suit] posted the video and criticized Dua for asking such a question.
“Manu Bhaker is back at 22 after winning double bronze medals for India at #Paris2024Olympics. But the reporter can't believe how beautiful and attractive she is. This is the level of Indian journalism. What a shame,” Rai wrote.
Several other social media handles also posted the video, calling the question gender-biased and the interviewer “unprofessional”.
In his defamation suit, Dua has argued that these statements not only attack his professional ability but also spread a false narrative that he is indulging in gender-discriminatory and inappropriate behaviour, thereby tarnishing Bhaker's achievements.
“These defamatory claims made without considering the full context of the interview have unduly damaged the reputation of Plaintiff No. 2.” [Rohan Dua] The reputation has been damaged, and it is important to restrain these social media handles (respondents no. 1 to 13) from further posting or disseminating similar defamatory content,” This was emphasized in the case.
