Rohit Sharma lifts T20 World Cup trophy, Indian captain set for grand felicitation ceremony at Wankhede Stadium after victory parade


India skipper Rohit Sharma took some time out to further polish the ICC T20 World Cup trophy ahead of India's victory bus parade at Marine Drive and Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Thursday. India's World Cup heroes finally left for Delhi yesterday on a charter flight from Grantley Adams International Airport. Rohit and Co defeated South Africa by seven runs in the ICC T20 World Cup final at Kensington Oval.

After lifting the famous trophy on Saturday, Virat Kohli's team was stuck in Barbados for three days due to cyclone Beryl. India's T20 World Cup squad received a rousing welcome when Rohit & Co arrived in New Delhi on Thursday. After being hosted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi over breakfast in the national capital, Rohit & Co arrived in Mumbai for the victory parade in the evening. Ahead of the open bus roadshow, Rohit was spotted polishing the T20 World Cup trophy in a viral video.

Team India's victory parade begins in Mumbai

Traffic came to a halt as India's victory parade began in Mumbai. The victory parade of the T20 World Cup winning team began in Mumbai after a delay of two hours. Rohit and Co. reached Mumbai after 5 pm and the two-hour open bus parade began from the National Centre for Performing Arts (NCPA) at Nariman Point. The roadshow will be followed by a felicitation ceremony at the Wankhede Stadium.

Holding the T20 World Cup trophy like a newborn baby, Rohit was all smiles at the captain's post-tournament photo shoot in Bridgetown. Under Rohit's captaincy, India became the first men's team to win all the T20 World Cup matches in a single campaign. “It's unreal. It feels like a dream. It feels like it didn't happen. Although it has happened, it feels like it didn't happen. I want to live this moment, every minute, every second that is passing by and try to make the most of it,” Rohit said.
