Scientists confirm that our solar system was donut-shaped

Scientists have confirmed that our solar system was initially shaped like a doughnut or flattened disk, estimated to be about 4.5 billion years old.

In the early stages, our young solar system formed from a swirling cloud of gas and dust called a protoplanetary disk. This disk extended outward from the central star (the Sun) and was shaped like a doughnut.

Due to gravity, small particles collided and stuck together, resulting in the formation of larger pieces called planetesimals. The attraction of more matter present in space made the planetesimals bigger and bigger, resulting in the formation of protoplanets.

Scientists have been able to find this out by conducting an in-depth study of iron meteorites that originated from our solar system. This study helped us understand the initial stages of the formation of the planetary system and how it evolved to what it looks like today.

These meteorites, which contain refractory metals such as platinum and iridium, provide evidence that the early formation stages of the solar system were toroidal, doughnut-shaped.

The presence of these metals in meteorites suggests that in the early days of the solar system, the distribution and accumulation of matter followed a toroidal pattern.

This shape likely influenced the evolution and organization of planets and other celestial bodies, providing important information about the processes that shaped our cosmic neighborhood.

A team led by planetary scientist Bidong Zhang at the University of California, Los Angeles, explored the composition of asteroids in the outer solar system and made the discovery of a toroidal solar system.

The doughnut-shaped protoplanetary disk provided the raw material for planet formation, and gravitational interactions led to the creation of diverse planetary systems.
