New Delhi: A bridge over the Gandaki river in Bihar's Siwan district collapsed on Wednesday morning, making it the seventh such incident in the state in the last 15 days. Bridge, located in Deoria BlockIt connects several villages to Mehrajganj. No casualty is reported. This is the second bridge collapse incident in Siwan in last 11 days.
Deputy Development Commissioner Mukesh Kumar He said that the investigation into the actual cause of the fall is ongoing. Senior officials have reached the spot to assess the situation.
“A part of a bridge in Deoria block collapsed this morning. The exact reason is yet to be ascertained. Senior officials of the block have reached the spot and I am also going there,” he said.
“The incident took place around 5 am. According to preliminary information, the bridge was constructed in 1982-83. The bridge was undergoing repair work for the past few days,” Kumar added.
Villagers suggested that heavy rains in the past few days may have contributed to the collapse, with the rise of the Gandaki river potentially weakening the bridge structure.
The incident comes after another bridge collapsed in Sivan just 11 days ago, raising concerns over the state of infrastructure in Bihar. On June 22, a section of a bridge collapsed in the Daronda area.
Similar incidents have been reported recently in districts like Madhubani, Arria, East Champaran and Kishanganj. These events have encouraged. Bihar Govt A high-level committee should be constituted to investigate and deal with these incidents.
