Severe weather threat across Massachusetts on Sunday. Maps show storm times and paths


BOSTON — The WBZ Next Weather Team has issued a Next Weather Alert due to the threat of severe thunderstorms Sunday afternoon and evening.

The Storm Prediction Center has placed much of New England, including Massachusetts, at a “slight” risk of severe weather.

Any storm has the potential to bring damaging winds, hail and torrential rain. The risk of tornadoes is also low, but not zero (about 2% so far).

What time will the storms start?

After starting the day with some rain in the early morning, we'll get a brief lull before a spell of scattered showers and storms begins during the afternoon. Then, the line of rain and storms will move east through the evening.

The watch for potential storms is from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m.

It will also be warm and humid on Sunday, with highs near 90 degrees and dew points reaching the 70s, creating energy and instability for storms.

Intermittent rain on Monday

There is a chance of some lingering rain on Monday, but overall, we are looking at a very dry and pleasant day, followed by warmer temperatures midweek as we get closer to the 4th of July holiday! Sunday will be a day to keep an eye on the radar.
