Under the Y+ security cover, Mr Khan will be accompanied by six armed security personnel round the clock. Earlier, the popular actor was accompanied by two security personnel.
According to the police, the actor recently wrote a letter to the Maharashtra government saying that he is receiving death threats after giving back to back blockbuster films. After this the Maharashtra government decided to increase the security provided to the popular actor.
Earlier, actor Salman Khan was provided Y+ security cover last year following threats from the Lawrence Bishnoi gang.
Shahrukh Khan has had run-ins with the Mumbai underworld in the past and is known to face threats.
Recently, filmmaker Sanjay Gupta took to social media to praise ‘Jawaan’ and praised Mr Khan for his determination in overcoming challenges including threats from gangsters.
“In the 90s when the underworld’s bullying of film stars was at its peak, Shah Rukh Khan was the only star who never gave up. ‘Goli marni hai maar do, par tumhe liye liye nahi karunga. Main Pathan hoon (Shoot me. If) you want, but I will not work for you, I am a Pathan),’ he said. He is the same even today (sic),’ Mr Gupta had posted on X.
As per the policy of the Government of Maharashtra, security cover is provided to those citizens who face threat to life. In such cases, citizens have to pay a fee for security or deposit security money.
