Shubman Gill to captain India in Zimbabwe T20s; Riyan Parag, Abhishek Sharma included in squad for maiden time | Cricket News


New Delhi: The 15-member Indian team has been announced for the five-match T20 series against Zimbabwe, in which key players like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant and Suryakumar Yadav have been rested.
Other notable names not featuring in the series are Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja and Jasprit Bumrah, who are all competing in the ongoing T20 World Cup in the USA but were rested ahead of a tough season.
The series will begin in Harare on July 6. The subsequent matches will be played in Harare on July 7, 10, 13 and 14.
Shubman Gill He has been appointed captain in the absence of regular captain Rohit. Nitish Reddy, Riyan Parag, Abhishek Sharma And Tushar Deshpande has been included in the national team for the first time for his IPL performances.
The upcoming series will be played without the services of key pacers Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj and Arshdeep Singh, who have been given a well-deserved break.
In their absence, Khaleel Ahmed and Avesh Khan, who were part of the standby group for the T20 World Cup, have been included in the main squad.
Another notable inclusion is that of Rinku Singh, a talented batsman who was surprisingly left out of the T20 World Cup squad for the tournaments held in the USA and West Indies. His selection comes as a relief to his supporters who were disappointed with his omission earlier.
The 15-man squad also includes Sanju Samson and Yashasvi Jaiswal, both of whom were part of the squad during the T20 World Cup but didn’t feature in the final XI.
As far as the new players are concerned, Abhishek and Parag dominated the most in IPL 17 with their brilliant batting.
Punjab batsman Abhishek, who represented Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL, scored 484 runs, while Rajasthan Royals' Parag, who is the first player from Assam to be selected in the senior Indian team, scored 573 runs.
