Skydiver found dead on front lawn of Florida home: “The worst I’ve seen”

Detectives are investigating after a skydiver was found dead in the front yard of a residence near an airpark in Florida, authorities said Saturday.

A man wearing a parachute outfit and gear was found on the lawn of a home in Titusville, about 50 miles east of Orlando, just before 12:30 p.m., police said in a statement. The Titusville Fire Department responded and Said The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

A neighbor’s surveillance video captured a reflection from an SUV’s window, which shows the skydiver descending before making a hard landing on the lawn, CBS affiliate WKMG reports.

James Sconiers told WKMG the man landed in his front yard.

“I was asking the guy who was laying on the ground, ‘Hey man can you hear me, can you hear me?’ But he didn’t respond,” Sconiers told the station.

Sconiers told WKMG the incident has left him questioning.

He said, “Watch the video and see what happened. If all the safety mechanisms were in place then why did it fall so hard? Something tells me there is a problem there.”

Nicole LaCount told WKMG that when she heard fire trucks and ambulances, she went outside her aunt’s house and saw the parachutist on the ground.

“I work in the medical field. This is the worst situation I’ve ever seen,” she told the station.

The Skydive Space Center is just a few blocks away. The center had no comment when WKMG asked if the parachutist came from his company.

Police said more information, including the victim’s name, would be released on Monday, the station reports.
