Bengaluru: Days after moving out of Earth’s sphere of influence, India’s first solar space observatory, Aditya-L1underwent a trajectory correction maneuver (TCM). Space ship Is healthy and is moving towards the Sun-Earth Lagrange Point-1 (L1), 15 lakh km away from the Earth.
ISRO on Sunday said the originally provisioned TCM was carried out for about 16 seconds on October 6, adding that the move was needed to correct the trajectory evaluated after tracking. Trans-Lagrangian Point-1 Insertion The (TL1I) maneuver – an operation that put the spacecraft on its way to the final destination – was performed on September 19, 2023.
“The TCM ensures that the spacecraft is on its intended path toward entry into halo orbit around L1. As Aditya-L1 continues to move forward, the magnetometer will be restarted within a few days,” ISRO said.
The space agency had said on September 30 that Aditya-L1 had successfully escaped the Earth’s sphere of influence and covered a distance of 9.2 lakh kilometers from the Earth.
This is the second consecutive time that ISRO has sent a spacecraft outside the Earth’s sphere of influence, the first being the Mars Orbiter Mission.
