LOS ANGELES, Aug. 26 (Xinhua) — SpaceX is aiming to launch a new mission on Tuesday that will involve commercial space travel for the first time.
Four civilians are scheduled to fly on the mission, called Polaris Dawn, which will launch from NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida at 3:38 a.m. Eastern time on Tuesday.
The mission will be the first manned spaceflight for a crew consisting of pilot Kid Poteat, mission specialist Sarah Gillis, and mission specialist and medical officer Anna Menon.
During their multi-day space mission, the crew and Dragon spacecraft will attempt to reach the highest Earth orbit ever reached since the Apollo program and participate in commercial space travel for the first time, according to SpaceX.
According to SpaceX, they will also conduct 36 research studies and experiments from 31 partner institutions designed to improve human health on Earth and during long-duration space flight, and test Starlink laser-based communications in space.
