Steve Jobs' Apple-1 computer sold for Rs 2.6 crore in auction of rare tech items | Technology News

One of the first personal computers sold by the tech giant, the Apple-1 computer, was recently sold for $315,914 (roughly Rs. 2.6 crores) in an auction organised by a Boston-based auction house in the US.

The computer board created by Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak was restored to a fully functional condition and the company's founders gifted it to Apple's first applications engineer Dana Redington. Interestingly, Jobs was reportedly going to throw away the computer board along with other stuff when he moved offices in 1978.

The Apple 1 computer plays an important role in the tech giant's history as Jobs reportedly sold 50 Apple 1 computers to Paul Terrell, the owner of the personal computer retail store Byte Shop. It is said that the money from that sale was reinvested in the company, boosting Apple's manufacturing ambitions.

Jobs included Polaroid photos of the Apple-1 prototype in his presentation when pitching to Terrell, and these photos were also auctioned off. Two years ago, the prototype was purchased by the highest bidder for $677,000.

Other rare Apple items auctioned by RR Auctions included the Apple Lisa-1 computer with the original 'Twiggy' drive ($81,251), Polaroid photographs of the Apple-1 prototype ($54,904), a first-generation Apple iPhone ($25,460), a first-generation Apple iPad prototype ($24,996), and a check signed by Steve Jobs ($66,844).

RR Auction said the auction raised a total of $983,096.
