Stree 2 is on a roll at the box office. Starring Rajkummar Rao, Shraddha Kapoor, Aparshakti Khurana, Abhishek Banerjee and Pankaj Tripathi, the film has now become the second highest-grossing Hindi film in India. In an interview with DNA, actor Abhishek Banerjee spoke about the balance between critical acclaim versus audience love, saying the latter matters the most. During the interview, Abhishek said, “Critical, the appreciation we get for our performances varies. It is a personal opinion and no matter how good you are, there will always be some people who will not find your performance up to par. But when we start acting, at that time we only care about being accepted by the audience. We want love from the public. That is what is important.”

He further added, “There are times when you are doing everything right, but the audience doesn't notice. Critics call you great. But you feel that the people I really want to connect with are not here. Let me tell you the truth, critical acclaim doesn't fill the stomach. No matter how much critics praise you, producers will give you work only if the audience appreciates you. Also, the joy of performing in such a field is always for the audience. The happiness you get when people like your performance is definitely a different high.”

Stree 2, which clashed with Khel Khel Mein and Veda at the box office, soon became the first choice of moviegoers, outselling the other two by a huge margin. A sequel to the 2018 film Stree, the horror-comedy film opened to good reviews and made a mark at the box office. It joined the 250 crore club on the sixth day of its release. The new film features Vicky and his friends played by Rajkummar Rao and an unnamed mysterious woman played by Shraddha who face a new terror in the form of a ghost who has only one head, called Sarkata.
