Suryakumar Yadav showed his guts to take a brilliant catch to dismiss David Miller in what was the crucial moment of the T20 World Cup final. It was the last over of the match and the Proteas needed 16 runs to win, so Hardik Pandya was chosen to bowl the all-important six balls. Pandya started with a low full-toss which Miller bowled straight down the ground and tried to hit a maximum but found Suryakumar near the boundary rope who held his nerve well. He showed great presence of mind and took one of the greatest catches in Indian cricket history. He lifted the ball up and kept his feet millimetres away from the boundary cushion before catching the ball over the rope.

The flamboyant cricketer spoke about taking the crucial catch that helped India end their 11-year ICC title drought. He said that when the ball was in the air, he saw the World Cup flying away.

“I really don't know what was going on in my mind. All I could see was that the World Cup had slipped away from me and I just kept on thinking about it,” Suryakumar was quoted as saying by the Times of India.

Surya received the 'Best Fielder' medal from BCCI secretary Jay Shah for taking a brilliant catch of Miller, which was the decisive moment in the final.

Talking about Suryakumar's catch, the Indian fielding coach said that he must have taken fifty such catches in the practice sessions. He also praised Suryakumar's alertness while taking the catch.

He said, “If you ask about Surya's catches, you will find that he must have taken fifty such catches in the practice session. But when that moment comes in the match, it is his decision and awareness of the rope is very important and knowing and having the confidence to throw the ball up and come in, it is a decision taken at that time.”
