Switch Online's N64 library didn't get off to a great start, with select games like The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time experiencing a number of emulation issues. Nintendo released updates for the app in response, and the situation has slowly been improving since then.
Unfortunately, it seems that one of the latest releases for the service is reportedly in a bad state at launch. The Switch Online emulation of Rare's legendary first-person shooter Perfect Dark reportedly has “a whole slew of problems”, according to GoldenEye 007 enthusiast 'Grasslu00', who previously lifted the veil on the cancelled Xbox 360 title.
Obviously, there are a ton of issues associated with textures, lighting, performance and frame rates, online play, and even control problems like input delay, sensitivity issues, and aiming:
“I probably forgot something… but yeah, there's no point in playing this version, it's the worst. It's like playing on a 2007 emulator. Do yourself a favor and play the PC version instead”
Other GoldenEye 007 and Perfect Dark enthusiasts such as 'TH126' have also encountered some of these problems:
Based on the track record of Nintendo's N64 service, it typically comes with an app update to fix any bugs or glitches after such a popular release. Perfect Dark's launch on the Switch Online service also marks the release of a “mature” version of the N64 app, which you can download right now on the Switch eShop.
