A video of the incident, which took place near Anaj Mandi on Sunday morning, went viral on social media, spreading panic in the area.
Mam Raj, a resident of Old Faridabad, works as an agent in Sector 16 Sabzi Mandi. He was walking from his house in Buddh Mahal to the market around 4 am on Sunday when a group of miscreants in a Scorpio attacked him with knives, took him hostage and forced him into his car.
When he resisted, the assailants physically assaulted him and took about Rs 70,000 from his pocket. After that, they fled the scene by pushing him with a moving vehicle.
He managed to reach the police post and lodge a complaint about the incident. His family was later informed.
A case has been registered at Sector 17 police station under BNS sections 111 (organized crime), 126 (wrongful restraint) and 304 (extortion). The police have started an investigation.
