GURGAON: Sewage standing up on roads and vacant plots has been a common sight in Sector 46 for the past two months, with residents alleging that the MCG has made no effort to address the issue.
He said that most of the sewage lines in the area are clogged, resulting in flooding of manholes in the sector. Residents also pointed out that sewage overflow is a recurring problem in the area as the civic body has not done any sanitation work for the past three years. Harish Miglani, a resident, said that he has been struggling for the past one month to fix the leaking drains outside his house.
“This has become a perennial problem over the past few years. Now, there are frequent episodes of sewer line overflow. Till date, MCG has neither been able to provide a temporary solution nor has any permanent remedy for it. “We are forced to prevent our children from going out to play and we have to keep our doors and windows closed to avoid the stench flowing from the sewage lines,” he said.
Due to continuous overflow of sewage, motorists as well as pedestrians are facing problems. They are forced to wade through dirty water on the streets. With no effort being made by the civic body to address the flowing sewage, residents are worried about the risk of vector-borne diseases. Sector 46 RWA president Rajkumar Yadav said that he has been receiving regular complaints from residents but feels helpless.
“Despite being the largest revenue generator, the state of civic affairs in the city has deteriorated. All our complaints have fallen on deaf ears and now the officials are not even responding. The entire sector has turned into a slum and It is not possible to live in such horrible conditions. When contacted, a senior MCG official said that the matter was not yet known to him. “However, I have directed the concerned official to look into the complaint and take necessary action. I will direct.”
