The IMD has issued a weather advisory for Char Dham Yatra pilgrims.

New Delhi: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast thunderstorms and rain for the next two days along the route of the Char Dham Yatra, a sacred pilgrimage in Hinduism. The Yatra begins on the auspicious day of Akshay Tritiya, with the opening of the Kedarnath, Yamunotri and Gangotri temples.

The gates of these holy shrines were opened to devotees after the winter closure, marking the beginning of the pilgrimage season. Kedarnath and Yamunotri opened at 7 am, while Gangotri welcomed pilgrims at 12:25 pm. The ceremonies were conducted amidst hymns and a large gathering of devotees.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has released weather updates for the Char Dham Yatra route, warning pilgrims of possible thunderstorms. On May 11, 2024, isolated thunderstorms with gusts of 50-60 km/h and up to 70 km/h with lightning, hail, and squalls are forecast. The sky is expected to be generally cloudy with chances of rain, thunder or dust storm.

For May 12, 2024, similar conditions are forecast, with isolated thundershowers and hail, and thunderstorms. Thunderstorms may include thunderstorms or hail. On May 13, 2024, the IMD has predicted isolated thunderstorms, which may include squalls or hail.

The first pooja at Kedarnath was performed in the name of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, marking the official start of the yatra. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami led the inaugural puja at the Kedarnath Dham temple, praying for the safety and spiritual success of the pilgrims.

CM Dhami highlighted the eagerness of devotees for this annual pilgrimage, which has now begun with the inauguration of Kedarnath Dham. As soon as the temple doors opened, the air was filled with chants of 'Har Har Mahadev', echoing the devotion of the pilgrims present. The Kedarnath temple, adorned with 40 quintal petals, stood in its majestic beauty, inviting worshipers to experience its sacred atmosphere.

The Char Dham Yatra is a path of worship and self-reflection, covering the holy places of Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath. It is a journey that promises spiritual renewal and a deeper connection with the divine.
