The Philadelphia Inquirer tells Donald Trump to get out after the debate

The Philadelphia Inquirer's editorial board called on former President Trump to drop out of the race after his debate with President Biden, citing “a vast collection of lies.”

“Debating about the debates is pointless. The only person who should drop out of the race is Trump,” the editorial board wrote Saturday.

Biden's performance in the debate sparked outrage among members of the media as well as some within the Democratic Party, as several media outlets suggested that he should withdraw from the race.

The Enquirer agreed that Biden's performance in the debate was “disastrous”, but argued that Trump should step down.

“This debate is a reminder of what the next four years of Trump will be like. More lies, grievances, arrogance and hate. Supporters say they like Trump because he says what he thinks. But he mainly spews raw feces,” the Inquirer wrote.

The editorial board argued that Trump did not deserve a place on the debate stage and said, “Why give him a platform at all?”

He added, “Yes, Biden had a bad night. He's 81 and not as sharp as he used to be. But Biden is still a lot better than Trump, even on his worst day.”

He argued that Biden has surrounded himself with experienced allies who value public service and argued that the president “believes in the good of America.”

“The Democrat machine is in full freak-out mode as President Trump delivered the most spectacular debate in history while Joe Biden completely embarrassed himself in front of the country and the rest of the world,” Trump campaign spokesman Steven Cheung told Fox News Digital in a statement.

Other news outlets such as the Atlanta Journal-Constitution (AJC) and The New York Times have called on Biden to withdraw from the election.

“He failed to outline the most basic aspects of his platform,” the AJC editorial board wrote. “He failed to take credit for the significant accomplishments of his three-and-a-half years in office. And he failed to respond to the lies of his opponent, who, according to CNN fact-checker Daniel Dale, lied 30 times during the debate, roughly once every 90 seconds of the allotted time.”

The New York Times said Biden's candidacy was a “reckless gamble”.

“On Thursday night, the president appeared a shadow of the great public servant he once was. He struggled to explain what he would accomplish in a second term. He struggled to respond to Mr. Trump's provocations. He struggled to hold Mr. Trump accountable for his lies, his failures and his sinister schemes. More than once, he struggled to get to the end of a sentence,” the editorial board wrote.

The NYT editors argued that Biden had been an admirable president, but said “the greatest public service Mr. Biden can now perform is to announce that he will not seek re-election.”
