Three suspects were arrested near IFCO Chowk on Sunday night for allegedly impersonating crime branch officials and trying to extort money from a truck driver when they stole a retail from a warehouse at Bristol Chowk in Gurugram. The store was carrying a consignment of liquor, police officers said on Sunday.
Investigators said the incident took place at 7pm on Friday when the suspects on a motorcycle stopped a truck. He said that the suspects asked the driver for permission to take the vehicle’s documents and alcohol.
According to the police, the driver Sonu Kumar produced all the valid documents but the accused asked him to pay the money. ₹10,000
According to the police, the driver reached the store and informed the manager of the store, Samar Singh. On Sunday, Singh contacted the police, after which an FIR was registered against unknown accused under sections 34 (concern) and 384 (extortion) of the Indian Penal Code at the DLF Phase-1 police station.
Crime branch officials traced the suspects through CCTV camera footage and technical surveillance.
The arrested suspects, Rohit Kumar and Akshay Kumar, of Jund, and Rahul (known by the same name) of Bharatpur, were not wearing any uniform at the time of the incident, Gurugram Police Public Relations Officer Subhash Bokan said. . The accused were then arrested near IFCO Chowk.
“They needed money. So, they planned to impersonate crime branch officials to extort money from the truck driver. The bike used in the incident has also been seized, he said.
