New Delhi [India]May 24: American Pistachio Growers (APG) in collaboration with the Indian Dietetic Association (Gujarat Chapter) organized a townhall on pistachios to discuss “The Quest for Green Fuel.”

The session was addressed by Dr. Rucha Mehta, Senior Consultant Endocrinologist & Diabetologist, Neeti Desai, Consultant Nutritionist, Shiny Surendran, Sports Dietitian & Preventive Health Nutritionist, Reema Rao, Registered Dietitian & Nutritionist, Convener, NetProfan Gujarat and Sumit Saran, In Country Market Representative, American Pistachios.

The session was attended by clinical nutritionists, dietitians and members of the Indian Dietetic Association (IDA) from across India.

Speaking on the occasion, Reema Rao, Registered Dietitian and Nutritionist, Convenor, NatProfan Gujarat, said, “I recommend including antioxidant-rich foods to protect healthy cells in the body from free radical damage. Pistachios are a great choice, as they are among the few antioxidant-rich foods that also qualify as a complete protein. This means they contain all nine essential amino acids typically found in animal-based proteins, making them perfect for those seeking a more plant-based diet. This is especially beneficial for vegetarians, who may otherwise need supplements to achieve a balanced intake of these amino acids.”

“Additionally, pistachios are a great source of prebiotics, which aid the growth of beneficial gut bacteria. They are also an excellent source of healthy fats, making them a valuable part of a balanced diet,” he adds.

Speaking on the Indian market, Sumit Saran, in-country market representative, American Pistachio Growers said, “We have seen tremendous demand for American pistachios as people are becoming more aware. They are great as a snack or ingredient. American pistachios are available on all major e-commerce platforms or major dry fruit retailers. All consumers have to do is search for California pistachios.”

The American Pistachio Growers is a non-profit trade association representing more than 865 growers, member processors and industry stakeholders in California, Arizona and New Mexico. More information and a collection of global research can be found at
