Traffic jams as Biden makes final stop, departs Seattle area

As President Joe Biden makes his final stop during a quick fundraising tour before departing Seattle on Saturday, his motorcade is once again closing roads in the area.

First, northbound Interstate 5 from Downtown Seattle to Highway 520 was closed from 10:30 a.m. to noon while he made his way to a private Eastside fundraiser.

The fundraiser in Medina was hosted by tech executives and other prominent Democratic donors, including Microsoft Chairman Brad Smith, Amazon General Counsel David Zapolsky, former Microsoft Chairman John Shirley and former Costco CEO Jim Sinegal.

Then, shortly before 1 p.m., another series of road closures occurred, from Highway 520, down Interstate 405 and up Highway 518 to Sea-Tac Airport.

Roads reopened after 1:30 pm

The President's convoy reached the airport at around 1:40 pm. As the loud roar of Air Force One echoed across the tarmac, Biden exited his limo, greeted local police officers assigned to escort him and boarded the plane.

The trip was part of a West Coast fundraiser for Biden as he and Vice President Kamala Harris prepare for their reelection bid against former President Donald Trump, the presumptive Republican nominee. Biden attended two fundraisers in San Francisco on Friday.
