Former President Trump recalled Sunday's assassination attempt during an event on the social media platform X on Monday evening, saying he heard gunfire from Secret Service agents.
The former president said he and a friend were playing golf when “we heard gunfire in the air, and I guess maybe four or five, and it sounded like gunfire. But what do I know about that? But the Secret Service knew right away it was gunfire, and they pulled me over.”
“We were in groups and everybody got on the vehicles and we got on really well,” he said.
Trump said one agent “saw the barrel of an AK-47, which is a very powerful gun, a rifle, and he started shooting down the barrel, he started shooting into the bushes. All he could see was the barrel.”
Reflecting on the July assassination attempt in Butler, Pennsylvania, Trump said, “That was a crazy day, and yesterday was another day with a different outcome and a much better one,” because no one was killed or injured.
One person was killed and two others were injured in this attack in July.
Trump also said of President Biden, “He was great, he called to make sure I was OK.”
