U-17 WWC: Sanusi praises Flamingo despite quarter-final exit

The Secretary General of the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, Mohammed Sanusi, has praised Flamingo despite their quarter-final exit at the 2024 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup.

The Flamingos won all three of their group stage matches.

However, Bankole Olowookere's team lost to USA 2-0 in the quarter finals.

Sanusi said that despite failing to make it to the last four, the girls need to be encouraged.

“The Nigeria Football Federation is proud of Flamingo and their efforts in the competition. Two years ago, they beat USA on penalties at the same stage en route to bronze medals. That's football for you. ,” Sanusi told thenff.com.

If you watch their games you will agree that the girls put up a great fight in every match. They won their group stage, collecting as many as nine points and scoring nine goals while conceding just one. They created several chances against the US but were quite unlucky. This is a good team and the players should be encouraged to go forward. I believe a good number of them have the skills, temperament and discipline to develop into the U20 squad.

The flamingos arrived in the country from the Dominican Republic on Tuesday.

Morocco will host the next edition of the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup.
