Live updates in India Canada: Canada ‘soft-pedaling’ Khalistani extremists, says report
Sources told news agency PTI on Tuesday that pro-Khalistan elements have been ‘operating freely’ from Canadian soil for almost 50 years under the guise of concepts like ‘freedom of expression’ and ‘political advocacy’ but the country has maintained “absolute silence”. Intimidation, violence, drug trafficking by these extremists.
The report states that several target killings of Sikhs, Hindus and Christians in Punjab since 2016 were the work of Khalistani separatist Hardeep Singh Najjar, whose killing has sparked a dispute between India and Canada.
But the Canadian agencies allegedly never initiated any inquiry or investigation against Najjar and his friends Bhagat Singh Brar, Pari Dulai, Arsh Dala, Lakbir Linda and many others, the source added. So, they remain “political activists” despite the growing body count. Counting in Punjab, PTI reported.
