At least seven people, including five women, a man and a child, were killed in a major bus accident in Uttarakhand’s Nainital district on Sunday. So far 28 people have been rescued and rescue operations are on.
He said that the SDRF has recovered the bodies of the deceased and handed them over to the civil police.
The official said the bus was coming from Haryana and crashed into a ditch in Nainital.
According to officials, the disaster control room in Nainital informed the SDRF on Sunday that a bus carrying 30 to 33 people had crashed into a ditch at Nalini on Kaladhungi Road.
On the above information, SDRF rescue teams from Post Rudrapur, Nainital and Kherna were immediately dispatched to the spot for rescue as per the instructions of Commandant SDRF Mani Kant Mishra.
After reaching the spot, it was found that 33 people were on board the said bus which had come from Hisar in Haryana to Nainital. Officials said the bus went out of control on the spot and plunged into a ditch about 200 meters deep.
The SDRF rescue team reached the spot and conducted a joint rescue operation with NDRF, local police and other rescue units. 26 injured persons on board the bus were rescued in the dark of night and in extremely adverse conditions and taken to the hospital for treatment.
Terming it as ‘extremely unfortunate news’, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Psuhkar Singh Dhami wrote in a post on X, “Received the very sad news of a bus accident on Kaladhongi Road in Nainital. Local administration and SDRF Relief and rescue operations are underway by the team, the injured have been admitted to a nearby hospital for treatment. I pray to Baba Kedar for the safety of all the passengers.”
