A door-to-door scheme was started in Ghaziabad to facilitate the document verification process. Now, these vans will run under the Ghaziabad Passport Seva Center in 13 districts, including Meerut, Noida, Aligarh and Agra, for which applications are pending due to increased demand.
According to the Passport Seva Center in Ghaziabad, about 1,400 visitors come daily for passport verification, while satellite districts receive 50-100 applications daily. Anuj Swarap, regional passport officer, Ghaziabad, was quoted by The Times of India as saying, “To tackle this problem, we have introduced a passport mobile van, which will visit districts with a high backlog of cases, from which applications will be processed. Applicants will have the opportunity to complete their verification locally.”
All these vans will act as a mobile Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) as they are equipped with printers, computers, scanners and loudspeakers. The move is aimed at reducing pressure on Central PSK and Post Office Passport Seva Kendra (POPSK) locations.
“We have passport seva kendras in Sahibabad, and POPSKs in all 13 districts where passports can be issued. Meerut, for example, receives an average of 80 visitors a day, sometimes exceeding 100. , which causes delays, we are providing 'Service Delivery' to your doorstep,” Swarp added.
To obtain a passport, applicants must submit and verify documents including a police check. Applicants in General or Tatkal categories should visit the passport office for document verification and biometrics. Passport delivery usually takes 10 to 25 days, but may be delayed due to pending applications.
Swarup advised applicants to fill the form carefully, especially name and date of birth, to avoid further delay. A visit to the head office at Ghaziabad will be required to correct any errors. The service is expected to speed up processing times, leading to faster approvals and reducing backlog across the region.
