He was a carpenter. Head of a separatist organizationKhalistan Tiger Force (KTF). He was included in the 'Most Wanted' list by the National Investigation Agency, which announced a cash reward of Rs 10 lakh for Najjar.
Canada has accused India of involvement in Najjar's murder, which has led to diplomatic tensions between the two countries. Speaking in the House of Commons on 18 September 2023, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said, “Over the past few weeks Canadian security agencies have been actively pursuing credible allegations of a possible link between agents of the Government of India and the killing of a Canadian citizen, Hardeep Singh Najjar.” “The complicity of a foreign government in the killing of a Canadian citizen on Canadian soil is an unacceptable violation of our sovereignty,” he added.
On the other hand, India has denied these allegations. At the time, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement saying, “We have seen and rejected the statement by the Prime Minister of Canada in his Parliament, and also the statement by his Minister of Foreign Affairs… regarding violence in Canada.” The incidents are ridiculous and motivated. Similar allegations were made by the Canadian Prime Minister against our Prime Minister and they were completely rejected.
Four Indian nationals have been arrested. In relation to Najjar's murder, India has said that it is awaiting the details of the case.
