1. Inside Out 2
Disney/Pixar | Week 2
Weekend Range: $75 – $85M
BoxOffice Company Showtimes Dashboard Market Share: 35%
Pros
- Pixar's inside out 2 It broke the 2024 box office ceiling with a $155 million domestic and nearly $300 million global gross last weekend, silencing nightmares while breathing new life into the summer movie season. There was still excitement in theaters on Monday as the film grossed $22.4 million — a few million less than the $26.3 million it earned when it was released last summer. Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga The figure surpassed 100 million after a three-day debut over Memorial Day weekend. inside out 2 It is the second-best Pixar film of all time, based on The Incredibles 2 ($23.6M). If inside out 2 remains roughly equal The Incredibles 2We're expecting a second weekend gross of $80.3M (a -56% drop), which is on the high end of our estimated range. However, in its second weekend, The Incredibles 2 was competing with the debut of Universal's giant Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom ($148M opening). There's no significant new competition inside out 2 This means that if the animated film continues to perform well, the possibility of earning nine figures or close to it cannot be ruled out.
- International should be pretty strong as well, given the opening weekend figures – like $14.3M inside out 2 made in the U.K./Ireland, making up 71% of that market's total box office, the biggest opening ever there barbie. At the pace it's going, the Pixar sequel should cross the half-billion mark globally before the weekend is over. Between June 19-21 we'll also see openings in other major markets, including France, Italy and Spain (June 19); Brazil (June 20); and China (June 21). Japan is the second-largest territory for the first from inside to outside The film won't be available until August 1, with $32.8 million (the UK was No. 1 with $59.4 million).
Shortcoming
- The downside is hidden in the positive: There are no new major titles launching this weekend. Good news for Disney, but not for theaters or—for that matter—moviegoers who saw Inside Out 2 last weekend and are looking for the next big thing. Neither The Bikeriders, nor Words of Kindness, nor The Exorcism are likely to draw significant audiences despite their big names. The remaining audience is more likely to gravitate toward veteran titles like Empire of the Planet of the ApesEntering its seventh weekend, this 20th Century Studios/Disney film landed in third place at the box office last weekend with $5.5 million, which is a +2% increase from the previous weekend, despite losing 555 screens… again, another good news for Disney.
2. Bad Boys: Ride or Die
Sony Pictures | Week 3
Weekend Range: $12 – $18M
BoxOffice Company Showtimes Dashboard Market Share: 13%
Pros
- Bad Boys: Ride or Die should stay strong, especially since Will Smith is still doing promo stunts like showing up at some random Cinemark screening for the benefit of TikTok-ers (via Deadline). Sony is already feeling the good-will from their star, as he's signed up for their next big sci-fi tentpole, resistive, with the studio headed by Tom Rothman. Bad Boys The fourquel dropped only 40% from last weekend, with no change in placings, and earned an additional $3,352,350 million on Monday, bringing its current domestic cume to $116,358,327 million.
Shortcoming
How it will happen Bad Boys: Ride or Die Able to keep up with the rest of the franchise? The third frames in the last three films looked like this…
- Bad Boys (1995) – $7,012,808 million (-36% drop in third frame)
- Bad Boys II (2003) – $12,734,526 million (-42% drop in third frame)
- bad boys for Life (2020) – $17,682,959 million (-48% drop in third frame)
Different inside out 2The bad boys have to compete against some rival bad boys Bike Riderswhich is aimed at the same male-centric demo.
3. The Bikeriders
Focus Features | New
Weekend Range: $7 – $12M
BoxOffice Company Showtimes Dashboard Market Share: 8%
Pros
- Specialty exhibitors had previously picked up the motorcycle gang crime drama set in the 1960s Bike Riders as one of the most promising potential general audience crossover titles of the year during our annual State of the Art-House panel. Rotten Tomatoes' critical reviews currently stand at 85%, with many praising the cast – including the formidable Tom Hardy, free manof Jodie Comer, and Dune: Part Two “It Boy” Austin Butler. It's rare for art house titles to get a mid-summer release these days, as specialty studios tend to release their most hyped titles in January or February to coincide with awards season. But a well-reviewed/star-studded drama full of action, pace and violence could be the perfect adult film for a summer slot devoid of critical competition.
Shortcoming
- While trailers set to Rolling Stones tunes promote a Scorsese-lite tone for this motorcycle gang epic, director Jeff Nichols is better known for artsy fare like mud Or Dear. It doesn't help that the film feels a little stale after premiering at the Telluride Film Festival last August, 20th Century Studios shelved an intended December release … then eventually handed it off to Universal's boutique division, Focus Features. 2024 hasn't been a banner year for Focus, with none of their major releases (Lisa Frankenstein, Drive-Away Dolls, The American Society of Magical Negroes, Back to Black) touching $10M domestically despite wide rollouts. Intended to be a summer contender, Focus's latest film will likely struggle for screens in the coming weeks. A straightforward period drama may need tremendous word-of-mouth to keep afloat Bike Riders Even in the specialized market, that's not much. Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1 It will probably be trampled Bike rider The latter in another frame of the film.
- However, the initial biker movie craze died down after a while easy Ridermodern examples such as Torque: Or Cymbeline It has not caused any major stir in the world. Bike Riders It will be of 2012 illogicalwhich paired Tom Hardy with a hot young male co-star (Shia LaBeouf) and an up-and-coming female lead (Jessica Chastain) in a period crime movie. That film ultimately grossed $37.3M domestically and $54.3M globally, which was an average performance.
