What’s going on around? Flu, Covid and Strep Throat

Texas and Washington DC are the only two parts of the US that are currently rising on the CDC weekly flu chart.

Clinics across Houston confirm that the flu is definitely spreading!

“I’m also seeing COVID, strep and whooping cough in the Houston area,” says MinuteClinic Nurse Practitioner Serena Lopez. She adds, “Flu is also on the rise in pediatric patients.” “We encourage patients to get the flu vaccine as soon as possible – ideally before the end of October – as it can take a few weeks to form a strong immune response.”

“In Montgomery County, we are seeing waves of flu-like illness and allergies,” says Erin Weirs, MinuteClinic practitioner and regional quality lead.

“We’re seeing an increase in coughs and colds as well as COVID and strep,” says Rachel Bauer, MinuteClinic nurse practitioner and area director. “With sick season fast approaching, we recommend that the community get their flu and other relevant vaccines as soon as possible!”
