Will Mamata Banerjee act? Left, BJP flag 'Road Justice' Video from Bengal

Opposition BJP and CPM have targeted the Mamata Banerjee government in Bengal.

Kolkata:

The opposition in West Bengal has slammed the Mamata Banerjee-led government over a video of a man beating up two people, including a woman, on a street while a crowd watched.

Opposition parties CPM and BJP have said that this video belongs to Chopra of Uttar Dinajpur district of North Bengal. The incident reportedly took place over the weekend.

In the video, a man is seen repeatedly beating a woman with sticks as a small crowd watches silently. She screams in pain, but the attack continues. Then he turns to a man and starts beating him. Most members of the crowd appear to support the attacker rather than trying to stop the attack. At one point, the man grabbed the woman by her hair and kicked her.

According to CPM and BJP leaders, the assailant is Tajumal, a local Trinamool strongman known for providing “swift justice” to local disputes. It is not clear why the man and woman in the viral video were being attacked. The local police have said that they have registered a case and the search for the accused is on. The Trinamool government is yet to respond to the video.

The main opposition BJP has said that this is the ugly face of Mamata Banerjee's rule in West Bengal.

“The boy seen in the video, brutally beating up a woman, is Tajamal… He is known for dispensing quick justice through his 'Insaaf' Sabha and a close associate of Chopra MLA Hameedur Rehman. is,” said Amit Malviya, head of BJP's IT cell and party co-in-charge of Bengal said in a post on X. “India should wake up to the reality of Sharia courts run by TMC in West Bengal. Every village has #SandishKhali and CM Mamata Banerjee is a scourge for women. Will Mamata Banerjee take action against this monster or her?” She will defend as she stood up for Sheikh Shahjahan. She also raised this issue before the National Commission for Women.

The BJP leader's post referred to the Sandishakhli row during which allegations of sexual harassment, land grabbing and extortion emerged against local Trinamool leaders. A section of the women then alleged that the allegations of sexual harassment were false and that false complaints had been lodged against them. Sticking to such a statement, the Trinamool accused the BJP of creating an issue.

Chopra's video was also flagged by CPM state secretary and former MP Mohammad Saleem. “Not even a #KangarooCourt! Summary trial and conviction by D@AITCofficial goon named JCB,” he said in a post.

Mr. Salim also said that the person who made the video has now been evicted from his home. “Same is the rule of TMC in Chopra liberated zone under @WBPolice supervision,” he said. The CPM leader alleged that Tajumal was also accused of murdering a local Left leader.

Targeting both the Trinamool and the BJP, he said the “Swindu model” was continuing in Bengal. “Murderers are at large, fraud of justice continues in Bengal.
