After speculation of former Maharashtra Chief Minister Shiv Sena's (UBT) alliance with the BJP, Uddhav Thackeray said he would never go along with those who tried to destroy the Shiv Sena. .
Thackeray was addressing the Shiv Sena's 58th foundation day function in Mumbai, Maharashtra.
“We will never go along with those who tried to destroy the Shiv Sena,” declared Thackeray.
He also accused the BJP of abandoning Hindutva while terming the saffron party's Hindutva as “regressive”.
Shiv Sena split in 2022
In 2022, the Shiv Sena split into two factions following a political crisis in Maharashtra. About 40 legislators, including Shiv Sena's Eknath Shinde, who formed the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government with two other parties, had reportedly lost confidence in Uddhav Thackeray as chief minister.
Eknath Shinde, now the Chief Minister, formed a new party in alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party to form the government in Maharashtra. The original Shiv Sena name and emblem was allotted to Eknath's faction, while Uddhav had to settle for a new name – Shiv Sena (Uddhu Balasaheb Thackeray).

Earlier today, Union Minister Piyush Goyal dismissed speculations of a leadership change in the party's Maharashtra unit following the BJP's dismal performance in the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections.
Goyal said the BJP leadership has no such idea, and no such discussion has taken place in the party's core committee meeting. There were speculations that Rao Sahib Patil would be made the state president.

The BJP lost nine seats to 23 in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections in Maharashtra. The vote share was 26.18 percent. On the other hand, Congress has marginally improved its seat share by winning 13 seats in the state.
The Shiv Sena and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) won seven and one seat respectively, taking the NDA's tally to 17. Shiv Sena (Uddhav Bala Sahib Thackeray) won nine seats while Nationalist Congress Party – Sharad Chandra Pawar won eight seats. .
