For the past several weeks, Nintendo fans have been desperate for news about the upcoming Switch successor; The news is that, if today's announcement is implemented, this likely won't happen until 2025. Alas, the blow has been largely mitigated by the revelation that Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition will be making its way to the Switch. 20 March 2025.
The transfer of Xenoblade Chronicles The first is that it now sits alongside Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and Xenoblade Chronicles 3 (plus all DLC) on one console, completing the set and making the Nintendo Switch the go-to for Monolith Soft's remarkable RPG. Makes two platforms. series.
The second reason is that it really feels like the last Wii U to result in the jump to Switch. Now if you want to get all technical, yes, there are a few more titles that ported over the Switch's misunderstood predecessor, but in terms of the games people are desperate for want To see ported to the Switch, Xenoblade Chronicles That is, beyond the obvious Twilight Princess and The Wind Waker – but those are remasters of existing titles that are playable on other consoles.
In fact, we asked the community which Wii U game people wanted to see ported to the Switch in January 2020, and Xenoblade Chronicles Super Mario 3D World received 21% (and of course, got its own Switch port with Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury) while The Wind Waker came out on top with 25%.
To be clear, we're not saying we're against a port of The Wind Waker – we'd bloom' Love One – but at this point we suspect Nintendo will want to wait until it can give it the 4K boost of yesteryear through more powerful hardware.
So yes, for whatever reason you've potentially had to track down a secondhand Wii U console that probably just went out the window. Sure, you'll want to try out the eccentric party title Nintendo Land or the divisive Sonic Lost World, but we're not sure these games are enough to warrant spending the money and making room for a Wii U if you haven't already done so. Take. Even if you do, we suspect it'll just keep gathering dust until one cool, rainy day you decide to finish Star Fox Zero.
In some ways, it's a shame. The Wii U was great (shut up, it). Was), and seeing its excellent library of games effectively canceled by so many Switch ports hurts in some respects – not to mention the closure of the eShop – but goodness, the benefits certainly outweigh the negatives in this instance. . The Switch is still a fantastic piece of kit, and we can't wait to experience Xenoblade Chronicles
Rest in peace, Wii U.
