A woman died after eating momos sold at a roadside stall in Hyderabad, while 15 others reportedly fell ill after eating the snack at a different location in the city, police said.

According to the news agency, the alleged victims had eaten momos produced by the same vendor but sold at different places within Banjara Hills police station limits last week. PTI The city police informed.

A family member of the deceased woman, Reshma Begum, 33, said her daughters, aged 12 and 14, used to eat momos from a street vendor in Khairatabad on Friday. Soon after, he developed diarrhea, abdominal pain and vomiting. She died on Sunday morning and her daughters are undergoing treatment. Reshma Begum was a single mother and is survived by daughters. NDTV Reported

Speaking to reporters, a local claimed that the woman started showing symptoms of food poisoning an hour after eating the momos. He further said that the woman died around 8.30 am on Monday. India Today Reported

The report added that the woman and others ate momos from a food stall called 'Delhi Momos'. Located in Chantal Basti, this stall was set up about three months ago by six men who had come from Bihar. According to the police, the stall operators have been detained.

The body of the woman was cremated and further action is yet to be taken to ascertain the cause of her death.

A release from the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) said that the corporation's food safety officials tracked down the street vendor with the help of the police and found that the establishment was being run without a license.

Officials have sent food samples to the state food laboratory for analysis and orders have been issued to stall vendors. GHMC food safety officials have also written a letter to the Banjara Hills police to investigate the matter, the PTI report added.

We received a complaint yesterday that Reshma Begum (33) died and 15 others suffered food poisoning after eating momos from the same vendor at different places, said Sub-Inspector Ram Babu of Banjara Hills police station. We have registered a case and are investigating the matter.”
