A pair of New York Yankees fans tried their best to stop Mookie Betts on Tuesday.

Two Yankees fans sitting in the front row near the foul pole in right field were called for fan interference when they tried to knock Bates' glove out of his hand while playing on a foul ball in Game 4 of the World Series.

His attempt, which came when Bates was tracking Gleyber Torres' fly ball in the bottom of the first inning, was unsuccessful. It appeared that as soon as the ball reached the first row of seats at Yankee Stadium, Betts made the play and both fans immediately jumped up and tried to steal the ball. One fan actually snatched the ball out of Bates' glove while he was apparently trying to pull the glove completely out of Bates' hand.

Officials immediately called fan interference and ejected Bates. Security personnel immediately approached the fans and the two were seen leaving the stands.

Bates was involved in a similar incident with fans during the ALCS in 2018, when he was with the Boston Red Sox. There have been several incidents of fan interference throughout the postseason, including Game 1 of the World Series, when a fan reached over the outfield wall and caught a Torres fly ball. That game was ruled a double.

The Los Angeles Dodgers entered Tuesday's game with a 3–0 series lead, and they immediately went up 2–0 when Freddy Freeman hit a two-run homer in the top of the first inning. Freeman has now hit home runs in all four World Series games and six consecutive World Series games before his last appearance in 2021, both records.

The Dodgers are looking for their first World Series title since 2020. The Yankees have not won since 2009. No team in World Series history has successfully recovered from an 0-3 deficit.
