Xiaomi 15 series launched as the first phones with Snapdragon 8 Elite

Xiaomi announced the Xiaomi 15 and 15 Pro as the first two devices equipped with Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset.

The Snapdragon 8 Elite was announced just last week, and Xiaomi is already set to release a new phone with the SoC. The chipset is built on a 3nm process and uses the Orion CPU, giving this year's flagship chipset a significant performance boost.

The Xiaomi 15 series is based on that SoC with an advanced cooling system in the 15 Pro. The new system adds a 14% increase in cooling areas. Additionally, the Xiaomi 15 Pro packs a 6,100mAh battery, while the less expensive variant sports a 5,400mAh unit. In any case, battery life is expected to be reliable.

Both versions of the Xiaomi 15 will be paired with the latest Snapdragon chipset coupled with 12GB or 16GB of RAM.

Xiaomi 15 Pro sports an attractive look. The display is slightly curved and the body railing is made of aluminium. At the back is a square-shaped Leica-branded camera array with three large-aperture lenses. Xiaomi notes that the 15 Pro uses the same Sony IMX858 sensor as the Xiaomi 14 Ultra for its telephoto lens. The Xiaomi 15 is based on a similar design with slightly curved edges.

The base model comes in several pastel and grayscale colors – white, black, green and purple – while the Pro comes in slightly darker colors including grey, green and white. Xiaomi is also offering a special “Liquid Silver” edition that gives off a ripple effect in the right light. It is available for both versions.

The Xiaomi 15 Pro will be priced starting at 5,299 RMB in China, while the Xiaomi 15 will be priced starting at 4,499 RMB.
