YouTube Music is expected to get AI chatbot feature 'Ask for Music'. Know everything

YouTube Music is reportedly preparing to introduce a new AI-powered feature, according to a recent report. The Google-powered music streaming service previously launched a Play, Sing or Hum to Search function that leverages AI to help users discover songs. The next anticipated innovation, reportedly named 'Ask for Music', could involve a generative AI chatbot to enable searching songs through conversational language.

According to a report by Android Authority, the 'Ask for Music' feature was discovered during a teardown of the YouTube Music app for Android, specifically version 7.06.53. Several lines of code inside the app suggested the development of this new AI-powered tool. The feature appears to be experimental, as indicated by various code strings.

The feature is described both by its name and the initial prompt that appears on the screen when accessed. A disclaimer found within the code warns users that “AI generated responses are experimental. Quality and accuracy may vary. Please do not enter confidential or personal information about yourself or others.” Additionally, a submit button is referenced, suggesting a user interaction component.

While the exact functionality remains uncertain, the inclusion of AI-generated responses and prompts suggests the feature may work similarly to a chatbot. Users can ask questions about songs, artists, and albums in a conversational manner, with the AI providing information and possibly links to relevant songs and albums.

Currently, YouTube Music includes a few AI-based features. These include audio-based search accessible via a waveform icon on the top-right corner of the screen and an AI-generated playlist cover that creates images for user-created playlists. If 'Ask for Music' is implemented, it will be the platform's first comprehensive AI feature.

However, it's important to note that app teardowns often reveal features that may be far from release or may never see the light of day. Sometimes, developers leave codes for unreleased or abandoned features within the app, making it premature to confirm whether 'Ask for Music' will be available to users.
