4-year-old boy killed, 4 family members injured in targeted shooting in San Antonio, Texas: Sheriff

Officials said thirty rounds of bullets were found at the scene.

Two gunmen opened fire on a Texas home in a targeted shooting, killing a 4-year-old girl and wounding four members of her family, authorities said Thursday.

The shooting happened Wednesday evening at a San Antonio residence and was captured on neighbors' surveillance cameras, authorities said.

According to Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar, a man and woman in their 20s and their three children were shot at the residence. All five victims were taken to San Antonio Military Medical Center in critical condition. Salazar said at a press briefing Thursday that the 4-year-old girl has died from her injuries.

The other victims — including 7- and 8-year-old children — are currently in stable condition, Salazar said.

The shooting happened around 7:40 p.m. at a townhome on the 6700 block of Windsor Hollow Drive.

In surveillance footage released by the Sheriff's Office, two gunmen are seen approaching the residence in a vehicle, believed to be an Infiniti, Salazar said. They then run to the house and fire weapons such as the DRACO — a “small AK-47-type weapon” that fires “devastating rounds,” Salazar said — before fleeing in a vehicle. Both are wearing ski masks.

Thirty rounds of bullets were recovered from the scene, Salazar said.

“This was not a drive-by shooting, where they shot from the street,” Salazar said. “They wanted to get out and get up close and personal and they wanted to empty a sufficient amount of stuff into that house to make sure they caused maximum damage. To make sure they killed somebody. “

One adult was “miraculously” unharmed in the shooting, Salazar said. The second unit attached to the townhome was not fired upon, he said.

“I have no doubt that they were after the people in that house, for whatever reason,” Salazar said.

Salazar said they are investigating certain persons of interest in the shooting, though he was not able to provide additional details.

“We're pretty sure we're pretty much on track with them,” he said.

Salazar said he plans to pursue mass murder charges in the shooting.

Authorities do not believe there is any imminent danger to the public, he said Wednesday night.

The Sheriff's Office Organized Crime Unit and Criminal Investigation Division are investigating.
